NEVER FORGET

On the weekend that commemorated the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, Brighter Bridge of Weir was awarded funding for a project that would mark the sacrifice of some of the village's own during 1914 - 1918.

Bridge of Weir Memorial Society's publication entitled 'Supreme Sacrifice: A Small Village and the Great War', has earned £1,000 in royalties. The Society offered this to a local group which benefits our village in some way, and Brighter Bridge of Weir submitted a bid. Our outline proposal pictured below, was displayed in The Bridge, alongside three others and the Memorial Society invited local people to view these and vote for their preference. At an Armistice Day service on the evening of 11 November, it was announced that our proposal waa the one chosen. Our plan, based on an idea by one of our own volunteers, is for a small garden of rememberance in the village's main shopping area and adjacent to the main car park. The area is presently 'stalled', or undeveloped, and we will now begin seeking the necessary permissions and sourcing the materials required to start the project.
